LOS ANGELES: Friends and family of "Charlie's Angels" star Farrah Fawcett bid goodbye to the actress at a private funeral in the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels.

Her long-time companion, actor Ryan O'Neal, 68, was among pallbearers who accompanied the casket, covered in yellow and orange flowers, into the cathedral.

Fawcett's and O'Neal's 24-year-old son, Redmond, who was jailed on drug charges, was temporarily released to attend his late mother's funeral. According to the funeral programme, he was to do the service's first reading.

Fawcett's friend Alana Stewart and "Charlie's Angels" co-star Kate Jackson were among early arrivals before the hearse pulled up, accompanied by 10 motorcycle officers.

Fawcett died on June 25 at age 62 after a three-year long battle with anal cancer. O'Neal and Stewart were at her side.

She chronicled her struggles with the disease in a two-hour long documentary, "Farrah's Story", produced by Stewart. The series aired in the United States last month.

"After a long and brave battle with cancer, our beloved Farrah has passed away," O'Neal said in a statement last week.

"Although this is an extremely difficult time for her family and friends, we take comfort in the beautiful times that we shared with Farrah over the years and the knowledge that her life brought joy to so many people around the world."

LOS ANGELES: "Charlie's Angels" sex symbol Farrah Fawcett, who died last week after a long battle with cancer, will have a private funeral on Tuesday, her family said.

A judge is expected to allow Redmond, her 24-year-old son with longtime companion Ryan O'Neal, to attend the funeral. He is in jail on drug-related charges.

Fawcett, 62, died on Thursday from anal cancer. Her battle against the disease, which was first announced in 2006, was made into a documentary, "Farrah's Story," which NBC television said it would re-air Friday night.

Fawcett emerged as a pop-culture icon in the 1970s and 1980s after her role in "Charlie's Angels" and appearance on a famous poster wearing a red swimsuit that would come to be her defining image.

In 2007 she declared that months of gruelling chemotherapy had seen her beat the cancer despite "excruciating pain and uncertainty."

However, in April this year it emerged that the cancer had returned and the actress was gravely ill.

LOS ANGELES - Actress Farrah Fawcett, best known for her role in television series "Charlie's Angels," has died, US media reports said Thursday. She was 62.

Fawcett died in hospital in Los Angeles surrounded by friends and family shortly before 9:30 am (1630 GMT) following a three-year battle with anal cancer, reports said.

Speculation that Fawcett's death was close at hand had mounted earlier Thursday after veteran ABC television interviewer Barbara Walters said the actress had been given her last rites.

Walters made the disclosure in comments to the "Good Morning America" breakfast television show.

"I'm not sure if she's going to make it through the day," Walters said. "She's had her last rites."

Walters said close family and friends including long-time companion Ryan O'Neal were gathering at Fawcett's hospital bedside in Los Angeles.

"This is all he wants to do is be with her," Walters said of O'Neal.

Earlier this week it was revealed that O'Neal planned to marry Fawcett, who has been battling cancer for three years.

"I've asked her to marry me, again, and she's agreed," an emotional O'Neal told Walters.

O'Neal, 68, and Fawcett had been romantically involved off-and-on since 1982. The couple had a son together but never married.
